Box Office Report for PS2
The film had a global pre-sales revenue of Rs 11 crore with the ticket booking and was distributed on more than 3200 theatres. The arrival of PS-2 increased anticipation among fans, and reviews on social media reflect how much they are taking in. Many people referred to the television drama as a hit, and some even compared it to SS Rajamouli's Bahubali 2. According to early trade sources, the film generated Rs 30 crore in India on its third day across all languages, bringing its total to Rs 80.20 crore. On April 30, 2023, Ponniyin Selvan – Part 2 got a 63.25% total Tamil occupancy.
Part 2 of “About Ponniyin Selvan”
The title work by author Kalki is the basis for the movie. The early years of the Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who would later become the famed king Rajaraja I, are shown in the first act of the movie. Since the publication of the book “Ponniyin Selvan” in 1955, many Tamil filmmakers have thought about making a movie based on it. However, a lack of funding prevented it from ever being realised. Mani Ratnam tried but failed to adapt the novel in the late 1980s and the early 2010s. The project was restarted in January 2019 with Mani Ratnam calling it his “ideal project.” Following the first installment, which was published in September 2022, the second installment made its theatrical debut on April 28. The PS-2's soundtrack was written by Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman.
