On January 1, 2004, the National Pension System (NPS) was established to provide all residents access to retirement income. Deepak Mohanty, the chairman of the NPS, said that the PFRDA (Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority), which oversees the NPS, is now striving to expand it. Plans call for this system to be accessible at all post offices and bank locations. This was verified by Deepak Mohanty in an interview with PTI Bhasha.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-211785″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-up-basement-floor-of-under-construction-building-collapses-killing-a-man-and-a-2-m.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com up basement floor of under construction building collapses killing a man and a 2 m” width=”1291″ height=”723″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-up-basement-floor-of-under-construction-building-collapses-killing-a-man-and-a-2-m.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-up-basement-floor-of-under-construction-building-collapses-killing-a-man-and-a-2-m-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1291px) 100vw, 1291px” title=”All bank branches and post offices must use the National Pension System, according to PFRDA's plans 12″>

By making the NPS products widely accessible to the general population, he said that attempts are being made to expand the reach of pension plans. According to Mohanty, the PFRDA has enlisted the help of banking correspondents and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) for the distribution of the NPS. It has been done so that individuals may readily take advantage of the scheme’s advantages, even in tiny towns and villages. According to Mohanty, “We are working to make the NPS easily accessible to the people through all bank branches and post offices.”

The overall number of users linked to NPS as of September 16 (excluding NPS Lite) was 1.36 crore, according to government figures. Five crore people are Atal Pension Yojana clients. India’s Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a pension program for people, primarily targeted at employees in the unorganized sector.

In a new notice published on July 27, PFRDA has announced new regulations for subscribers to the National Pension System. PFRDA loosened the restrictions for its subscribers in this announcement. The announcement states that customers may now choose an annuity plan after choosing not to participate in the National Pension Scheme (NPS). It implies that the customer may opt out of the program without incurring any fees and choose any yearly plan they like.

They may choose an insurance at any time after leaving the NPS, and there are no additional fees involved. The subscriber’s requirements determine the plan that is chosen. Additionally, PFRDA has aided subscribers in making wise judgments. The nodal officials under the government sectors, Point of Presence, and National Pension System Trust have been assigned this job. The subscribers will get the essential direction from these three areas.
